On Semantic Logic and Semantic Networks in Knowledge Representation (KR)
SEMANTIC
LOGIC
AND
SEMANTIC NETWORKS
IN
KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTATION (KR)
This lectures briefly introduces semantic networks and the
relevant semantic logic in AI, as a paradigm for knowledge representation,
which has lead to many applications beyond AI in object-oriented software
engineering and database management systems, including the Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) and the UML (Unified Modeling Language) as defined by the Object Modeling
Group, today the Object Management Group (OMG), all which tend to be
contemporary to different generations of expansions to knowledge representation
(KR) paradigms. I also briefly present
the concept of frame, as well as schema, as used in database concepts as well. Today, semantic
networks have a significant application in social media, and with the
integration of machine learning they have lead to important statistical models
to understand the clustering of information and their correlation through these
networks and internally among the networks' entities.
From the visual perspective, this is possibly the simplest
topic discussed in this coursework, in relation to the human window (involving
memory, reasoning, and logic understanding) equivalently.
